The educational system in Uzbekistan has undergone significant changes over the years. Currently, about 60 percent of the population is covered under the education system. Previously, 11 years of compulsory schooling was required for both men and women, but in 1992, the policy was changed to 9 years of compulsory education. After completing nine years of schooling, students have the option to pursue higher education in tenth or eleventh grade, or opt for vocational training. Upon completion of secondary education, individuals can further their studies at a higher education institution to obtain a bachelor's degree and continue towards a master's or doctoral degree.
