More than 2,000 registered mosques in Uzbekistan cater to the Sunni Hanafi population, alongside numerous unregistered smaller prayer spaces reflecting the decentralized nature of Sufi practices in rural areas. Estimates suggest that approximately 88% of Uzbekistan's population identifies as Sunni Muslim, with Hanafi jurisprudence—a prominent school of Islamic law—being widely followed.
