Asthma is a chronic inflammatory allergic disease causing reversible episodes of airways obstruction due to bronchial hyper-responsiveness. The early phase is characterized by smooth muscle spasm and excessive bronchial mucus secretion, while the late phase includes inflammation, fibrosis, oedema, and necrosis of bronchial epithelial cells.
